Why Do I Need Retreatment After a Root Canal?
Generally, a root canal treatment is successful and lasts a lifetime. Unfortunately, sometimes the tooth will fail to heal properly, and you may require retreatment. Your procedure will be performed by a licensed endodontist in the comfort of our office.
What Will Happen During the Retreatment Procedure?
First, we'll discuss your treatment options with you. Usually, the doctor will remove the canal filling, clean the canals, examine the inside of your tooth, and check for any existing canals that may require treatment. The doctor will then fill and seal the canals, place a temporary filling in the tooth, and you will visit your dentist for a new crown.
You May Need Retreatment for a Variety of Reasons
- Narrow canals were not treated
- Curved canals were not treated
- Complicated canal anatomy was not detected
- Crown or restoration placement was delayed
- Salivary contamination in the restoration
- New decay is causing infection
- A loose, cracked, or broken crown or filling
- You fracture a tooth
When is Nonsurgical Retreatment Not an Option?
In some cases, nonsurgical retreatment is not an option. Your tooth may require endodontic surgery. Your doctor will discuss your treatment options and help you make the best choice for your oral health. We also offer treatment for cracked teeth and root canal therapy.
